Message from Gaza: “We are running out of time to save lives”

Food and medical supplies are running out amid the longest full siege Gaza has experienced since 2007.

More than two months ago, Israel launched a total siege on Gaza, and since then has prevented any humanitarian aid from entering.

As a result, critical medications are in short supply, and Doctors Without Borders/Médecins Sans Frontières(MSF) teams have been forced to start rationing medications such as pain killers, provide less effective treatment, and turn some patients away because we don’t have the proper tools to treat them.

In April, at the MSF-run clinic in Gaza City, MSF teams saw an average of over 100 patients with burns and injuries each day, many of whom have to endure excruciating pain with limited or no relief.

MSF teams in Gaza recorded the following message on the current situation:

Palestinians in Gaza are facing a death sentence.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza is catastrophic as a result of the Israeli-imposed siege for over two months.

Food is running out.

Medical supplies are running out.

Fuel, which is necessary to run the ambulances and health care facilities, is running dangerously low. NGOs are reliant on the UN having full access to the fuel deposits in Rafah, which has also been denied by Israeli authorities.

Meanwhile, Israeli military action continues to kill and injure tens of people every day— and more people will die if the Israeli authorities don't lift the siege now.

While Israeli authorities are blocking all supplies from entering Gaza, medical facilities are overwhelmed with patients.

This is the longest full siege Gaza has witnessed since Israel left the Strip in 2007.

We are running out of time to save lives. We call on the Israeli authorities and their supporters to abide by International Humanitarian Law and follow the principles which allow for unhindered humanitarian aid for people trapped inside the Strip.
